Political Journalist

Oksana Kovalenko

In 2002, I graduated from the Institute of International Relations of Kyiv National University. I was interested in politics from school age, so I found myself in political journalism. I worked at Ukrainska Pravda, leading Ukrainian news website, for 14 years. I wrote news, was a commissioning editor, managed the news department, wrote texts about politics, war, law enforcement agencies and courts. In 2018, I decided to find out if there is life outside of Ukrainska Pravda, and joined Babel, which was just getting ready for launch. To better understand what I'm writing about, I received a law degree — Babel supported this. I'm currently a bachelor, but will get a master's degree as well. After the beginning of Russia's large-scale aggression against Ukraine, I write about possible ways of bringing the guilty ones to justice for international crimes committed in war. And most importantly — on how to bring Vladimir Putin to the trial.
